| | BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University released some
details of Bob Knight's contract with the school, including the
basketball coach's salary of $163,118, according to a report in The
Indianapolis Star.
The contract also provides for the use of a new car each year, a
basic college education for Knight's two sons, and for official use
of aircraft, the newspaper reported in today's editions.
The university would not release parts of the contract dealing
with deferred compensation, or say how much Knight makes in outside
income, including shoe and apparel contracts. Indiana University
said it is exempt from disclosing that information under the
state's public records law.
The contract was first signed in 1982, after Knight was at the
school for about 11 years. It was extended in 1997 and runs through
June 2002.
Two university trustees are investigating Knight following
recent reports from two players that he physically abused team
members. Former player Neil Reed alleged last month that Knight
choked him during a 1997 practice. Knight denied that claim.
In a separate report, former player Ricky Calloway said Knight
punched Steve Alford and slapped Darryl Thomas. Both former players
said the incidents never happened.
