Brian Cook of Illinois and Carlos Boozer of Duke each had 17
points.
The Americans led by 40 points by the end of the third period.
The smaller South Koreans were forced to shoot from the perimeter
"We were just bigger and stronger, and it's tough when there is
such a size advantage," said U.S. coach Jim Boeheim, who went to
his bench early.
The United States improved to 2-0 in the 12-nation event. The
Americans won the inaugural tournament in Spain in 1993 and
Australia won the second tournament in Melbourne in 1997.
The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals,
which begin Friday. The United States plays undefeated Argentina on
Sunday.
"We'll have a tougher time with Argentina," Boeheim said.
"But I like the way our team is playing. We had 36 assists tonight
and when you get guys playing together like that it's a good
sign."
In other Group B games, Luis Alberto Scola scored 42 points as
Argentina improved to 2-0 with a 92-77 victory over winless
Croatia.
Fumio Murayama hit 7-of-10 from the 3-point line and scored
22 points but it wasn't enough as Israel defeated the host nation
102-80. Israel won its second straight while Japan dropped to 0-2.
In Group A, Carlos Cabezas scored 36 points to power Spain (2-0)
to a 75-71 win over defending champion Australia (1-1). Spain improved to
2-0.
In other Group A games, Slovenia defeated Egypt 76-62 to improve
to 2-0 and leave Egypt at 0-2. The Dominican Republic won for the
first time, downing winless Qatar 101-79.
