IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Chris Morris scored 10 of his 13 points over the final 5:47 to help the Harlem Globetrotters hold off Iowa 79-76 in an exhibition game Wednesday night.
Morris made two free throws with 2:58 to play to give the Globetrotters the lead for good at 72-71, and then made two more for a three-point lead after Iowa's Chauncey Leslie missed an open jump shot.
Kareem Reid's free throw and Donnie Boyce's 3-pointer with 58 seconds remaining secured the victory for the Globetrotters, who are 2-1 so far on a nine-game college tour.
Luke Recker hit five 3-pointers and led Iowa (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 Associated Press) with 25 points. Reggie Evans added 20 points and 14 rebounds while battling the Globetrotters' imposing front line of 7-foot-4 Keith Closs, 6-10 Doug Smith and 6-9, 315-pound Oliver Miller.
Aundre Branch led the Globetrotters with 15 points, all in the first half. Branch hit two 3-pointers while scoring the first 10 points of a 15-0 run that pulled the Globetrotters from an 18-15 deficit into a 30-18 lead midway through the first half.
Iowa spent the rest of the game trying to catch up. The Hawkeyes finally tied it at 68 on Rod Thompson's three-point play and took their only lead of the second half when Recker hit a 3 to make it 71-70 with 3:13 left. |
