Sampson says he won't tolerate lack of discipline

Associated Press

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma sophomore guard Rashaad Carruth has been dismissed from the team, head basketball coach Kelvin Sampson said Sunday.

Sampson said Carruth was dismissed for breaking a team rule. Carruth joined the Sooners last summer after transferring from the University of Kentucky, where he averaged 5.5 points in 26 games last year.

"The foundation of our program has always been discipline,'' Sampson said. "There's no point in setting rules if those rules are not enforced.''

The 6-foot-5 inch Carruth was a McDonald's high school All-American at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia before he signed with Kentucky. He has said he left KU because of a disagreement with Wildcat coach Tubby Smith.

Under NCAA rules, Carruth would have sat out one year after transferring and would have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2003-2004 season.
