Dana Altman got in the door, but it looks as though he won't stay. Despite reports that the Creighton coach will be offered the head coaching job at Illinois, ESPN.com's Andy Katz reports that Altman did meet with Illinois athletic director Ron Guenther, but the Illini would not make an offer. According to a source, Guenther and Altman first met Friday in St. Louis, and then spoke again over the phone Monday. The source added that the decision not to offer Altman the job was a mutual decision between the Creighton coach and Guenther as both sides chose not to pursue it further. Illinois will now look elsewhere for another candidate to replace Bill Self, who left the program last week to take the head spot at Kansas. A source said Rice coach Willis Wilson was also interviewed last week, but would not be offered the job. According to other newspaper reports, the next strong candidate on Guenther's list is Northern Illinois coach Rob Judson, who has yet to be contacted by Illinois. Judson could be a more likely choice over other names thrown into the mix: Southern Illinois' Bruce Weber and Xavier's Thad Matta.
