COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Cole Field House is one of the great places to play in college basketball because it has history, and it's on campus. Cole is home to "Garyland" under head coach Gary Williams, who was a starting guard for the Terrapins in the late 1960s when Bud Millikan roamed the sidelines. There have been many historic games played in Cole, including DeMatha's win over Lew Alcindor's Power Memorial team in 1965. But none was as historically significant as the 1966 Final Four, when Don Haskins coached Texas Western and the first all African-American starting
lineup to the national championship. The days of Cole Field House are numbered. Maryland recently broke ground on the new 20,000-seat Comcast Center, which will be ready for the 2003 season.
