Satterfield decides he needs more playing time

 Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati point guard Kenny Satterfield changed his mind and said Friday he will return for his sophomore season rather than declare for the NBA draft.

Ed Cota and Kenny Satterfield,
Kenny Satterfield, right, decided to return to Cincinnati for his sophomore season.

Satterfield, who led Conference USA with 5.4 assists per game his freshman season, had been saying he expected to opt for the NBA draft. But he told Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins he will stay in school.

"It just felt like the right thing to do, to get another year of school," Satterfield said Friday.

Asked if he will stay for his junior season. Satterfield said: "I can't tell."

Satterfield, 19, from New York City, said he realized he will get more playing time for the Bearcats than he would if he were drafted and riding the bench for an NBA team.

Last season, he started 14 of 33 games and averaged 9.2 points per game.
