Oklahoma State is expecting to get Minnesota transfer Antoine Broxsie eligible in two weeks. But while the Big 12 will get a slew of mid-year additions coming up in the next few weeks, Cowboys swing guard Glendon Alexander doesn't have a chance to be eligible until the first week of January.
Alexander is seeking a sixth year because of injuries. He has been practicing with the team but his hearing with the Big 12 isn't until next month.
"It's a huge lift in practice,"' Cowboys assistant Sean Sutton said. "He helps our perimeter players by giving them a great offensive player to guard every day."
In his absence, JC transfer Maurice Baker has been one of the better scorers in the Big 12.
Meanwhile, Baylor is looking forward to Chad Elsey -- formerly of SMU -- to play Saturday at Cal State-Fullerton. Missouri could have Travon Bryan as soon as next Thursday against Illinois. And Nebraska should have New Mexico transfer John Robinson II eligible Dec. 22 for the final game of the San Juan Shootout. But Barry Collier said he plans on honoring an imposed suspension on Robinson for two games for improper behavior during the offseason.
Texas' Darren Kelly is supposed to be eligible for Dec. 20 at Houston if his academics are in order but that won't be known until the day before the game, while Texas A&M added transfer Jesse King, but he won't be eligible until Dec. 22 against Long Beach State.
The men's basketball tournament selection committee replaced member Gene Smith (Arizona State athletic director who left Iowa State) with Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg. Selection chair Mike Tranghese said Les Robinson and Lee Fowler will stay on the committee after they simply switched positions.
Robinson, now the AD at the Citadel, took the I-AA spot that Fowler held while at Middle Tennessee State. Fowler took Robinson's job as AD at N.C. State.
Former DePaul coach Joey Meyer finally hooked on with a pro team, coaching the ABA 2000's Chicago edition, which includes former Chicago star guard Ronnie Fields.
