Freshman of the Week
ARRON AFFLALO, UCLA
Jordan Farmar is getting most of the publicity nationally and out of the UCLA PR office. But Afflalo had the better week and has been right in step with Farmar throughout the season. Afflalo scored 22 points in 23 minutes in the win over USC. Then he put up a team-high 17 points in the win at Notre Dame on Sunday. The combination of Farmar and Afflalo in the backcourt has worked for the Bruins and should get them into the NCAAs. Relying on a freshmen backcourt is a risk but it has worked out for UCLA.

Supporting Cast
RUDY GAY, Connecticut
Gay finally busted out with a big game in a big-time atmosphere with 17 points in the road win over Pittsburgh. Gay is the Huskies' best talent but he needs to take control and prove it. He did in Pittsburgh.

DANIEL GIBSON, Texas
Gibson nearly helped the Longhorns beat Texas Tech in Lubbock with 22 points on the road last week but then he got through a rough shooting game (3-of-10) to still manage 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a win over Missouri.

D.J. WHITE, Indiana
White scored 17 points in the overtime win over Michigan State Sunday. He also chipped in with 14 points in an earlier win over Purdue. White has been the constant inside presence the Hoosiers desperately needed to balance out Wright on the perimeter. He should be the Big Ten freshman of the year.

KYLE CIEPLICKI, Vermont
Mike Lonergan should be praising the way Tom Brennan is using Cieplicki down the stretch. He's gaining oodles of confidence, playing in place of the injured T.J. Sorrentine. Cieplicki scored five points and played a critical 19 minutes in the Catamounts' comeback win over UMBC last Thursday. He then scored a team-high 14 in the Catamounts' loss at Maine on Sunday. Sorrentine didn't play against the Black Bears because of a strained hamstring.
