GAME DAY PREVIEW Game time: 12:00am ET
Georgia at Tennessee

KN OX OXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Georgia Bulldogs have never lost nine straight games to an opponent. That may change Saturday.

The defending national champion and sixth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers will try to continue their dominance over Georgia (No. 9 ESPN/USA Today, No. 10 AP), but this game is like a family reunion with a major feud scheduled in the middle.

"It feels like a high school game, that kind of atmosphere, where you know so many people on the other team," said Vols quarterback Tee Martin, who is friends with Bulldogs quarterback Quincy Carter.

There are 10 Volunteers from Georgia. The Bulldogs don't list any Tennesseans on their roster, but have two assistant coaches hired from the Vols' staff the last two years.

Tennessee safety Deon Grant calls his former coach, now Georgia defensive coordinator Kevin Ramsey, "almost like a brother."

Carter says his relationship with Martin goes back to high school.

"He's a great guy, a fine guy to be around," Carter said. "Our relationship goes beyond the football game. After 60 minutes, we're going to be friends again."

But for those 60 minutes, the Bulldogs will be working vigorously to reverse a recent trend. Tennessee has beaten the Bulldogs eight consecutive games.

Vols coach Phillip Fulmer figures he doesn't have to tell his players how badly the Bulldogs would like to end the streak.

"I go over the history of the game every week," he said. "They can figure that out."

One Vol who has figured it out is safety Fred White, a Griffin, Ga., native who grew up a Bulldogs fan.

"Football in Georgia is prideful," he said. "I know that team wants to be recognized with the elite. You'd better be ready to play because they can whip your butt."

Georgia coach Jim Donnan says he's not stressing the Vols' winning streak.

"I talked to our team about this year. That is all you can control," he said. "We talk more about what we have got to do as a program in order to elevate ourselves to their status. They have elevated their program while we've been trying to elevate ours and catch up with them, but they have gone up another notch."

Both teams will be trying to put together a complete game after some shaky outings the last few weeks.

In its last three games Tennessee has lost to Florida, eked out a one-point win over Memphis and squandered a chance to hammer an Auburn team playing without its starting quarterback.

Georgia has posted a pair of one-point wins the last two weeks when Central Florida missed an extra-point kick to tie at game's end and LSU opted to try a two-point conversion instead of kicking for a tie and overtime.

Each team has a quarterback who is a threat to run.

Carter is Georgia's second leading rusher, but like Martin he would rather throw the ball than rely on his legs.

"Quincy lost his top four receivers from last year, very similar to Tennessee," Donnan said. "We have had a lot of dropped balls and missed routes and have not done a very precise job of getting open."

Georgia comes into the game atop the SEC Eastern Division standings, but the Bulldogs haven't played either of the teams they know they'll have to beat for the title, Tennessee and Florida.

"I don't think they'll be intimidated," Grant said. "I think they'll come in here ready to play because they want to stop that streak, what is it, eight in a row? We just have to be ready, too."
