ATLANTA (AP) _ George Godsey threw two touchdowns passes in the final 3:48 to lift Georgia Tech to a 21-17 victory over Central Florida on Saturday night.

With the Yellow Jackets down 17-7 and facing third-and-18, Godsey connected with Jon Muyres on a 27-yard pass to the UCF 38 just before hitting Kelly Campbell with a 23-yard touchdown pass in the season opener for both teams.

The Jackets got the ball back with 3:05 to play at the Golden Knights' 49. Godsey connected on passes of 9, 11 and 11 yards to reach the 5 where Joe Burns took two cracks up the middle, reaching the 1. On third down, Godsey faked to Burns, rolled to his right and hit Brian Lee in the end zone for the go-ahead score with 38 seconds left.

Tech, which had its scheduled opener with Virginia Tech called off because of a thunderstorm last Sunday night, cut a 10-0 deficit to 10-7 on Godsey's 23-yard scoring strike to Kerry Watkins 13 seconds before halftime.

UCF, 0-15 against teams from the Atlantic Coast, Southeastern, Big Ten and Big 12 conferences, appeared to have this one in hand when Vic Penn launched a 79-yard scoring pass to Kenny Clark. Clark made the reception at the Tech 35 and outsprinted defender Jamara Clark to the end zone just over five minutes into the third quarter.

Clark also scored UCF's first touchdown on a 9-yard run midway through the second quarter to build a 10-0 lead. Javier Beorlegui had kicked a 48-yard field goal in the opening minute of the second period to break a scoreless tie.

Godsey completed 19 of 31 passes for 189 yards.
