KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) _ Nose tackle Marty Harig returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown as Western Michigan beat Toledo 21-14 on Saturday night.

Robert Sanford ran for 93 yards and a first-quarter TD, the 28th of his career, for Western Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Mid-American).

Jeff Welsh completed 18 of 36 passes for 231 yards. Steve Beal had eight catches for 75 yards to move into second place on the MAC career receiving yardage list.

Chester Taylor ran for 132 yards and a touchdown for Toledo (3-1, 0-1). Tavares Bolden was 23-of-50 for 188 yards.

Harig's interception return gave Western Michigan a 21-0 lead with 9:50 left in the third quarter.

It was the defending West Division champion Broncos' second victory over the Rockets since 1989.

Toledo, which averaged more than 30 points and 350 offensive yards in its three victories, managed 312 yards Saturday.

Paul Dye returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, and Taylor had a 17-yard TD run 1:14 later.
