New Mexico State 42, Army 23

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) _ Oliver Soukup and Jamar Lawrence scored on interception returns and Ronshay Jenkins returned a punt for a score as New Mexico State beat Army 42-23 on Saturday night.

Soukup, a defensive tackle, returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, and Jenkins had an 85-yard punt return in the quarter. Jamar Lawrence scored on a 41-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

The Aggies (1-4) opened the scoring on Chris Barnes' 6-yard run that capped a 13-play, 60-yard drive in the first quarter. After Jenkins' punt return and Soukup's interception return, Army (0-5) scored on Michael Wallace's 2-yard run.

The Black Knights closed the half out with a 35-yard field goal by Brendan Mullen to make it 28-10.

Kenton Keith gave the Aggies a 35-10 lead with a 40-yard TD run in the third. Wallace struck again in the fourth quarter, running 17 yards for Army's final score.

The loss spoiled the return of Army quarterback Chad Jenkins, who missed the last two games with an ankle injury. Jenkins was intercepted three times and was just 6-for-13 for 60 yards.

Backup quarterback Curtis Zerbic threw the interception that Lawrence returned for a touchdown.

The Aggies' Manuel Talbert had five catches for 65 yards, and Barnes ran 23 times for 71 yards. Wallace rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries for Army.
