Who's the Big Ten's greatest team?

Few if any conferences can match the gridiron history of the Big Ten. For 103 years, some of the most titanic battles in college football have been fought on the Midwestern sod. But of all the great teams that have taken the field in Big Ten history, which was the best of the best? After four weeks of competition, ESPN.com users have spoken, and their choice for the greatest Big Ten team of all time is ... 1994 Penn State. The Nittany Lions eked out a narrow victory over 1997 Michigan, capturing 51.6 percent of the 42,375 votes cast between September 27 and 30.

Joe Paterno's '94 Penn State team -- paced by QB Kerry Collins, TE Kyle Brady, and RB Ki-Jana Carter (pictured) -- did everything a team has to do to win a national title: They compiled a 12-0 record, averaged 47 ppg, and routed Oregon 38-20 in the Rose Bowl. Unfortunately for Penn State, the pollsters were more impressed by Nebraska's 13-0 record and awarded the Nittany Lions the runner-up slot.
