Friday's $40 a plate luncheon was primarily a schmooze fest, so Washington coach Rick Neueheisel took it upon himself to entertain the crowd of 1,500.
Neueheisel told the story of the first time he attended a Texas football game with coach, Gil Steinke. Neuheisel said that a lawnmowing accident in which Steinke lost a finger kept him from making the traditional two-fingered, Hook 'em Horns salute at the game.
"God bless Gil, but it was more like Hook 'em Horn," Neueheisel joked, waving one finger, instead of the customary two, in the air.
The comment drew a roar from the crowd, which was split down the middle with players and fans from each school.
