Monday, December 24 Player diary 2: Willie HurstThroughout the week leading up to the Culligan Holiday Bowl, Washington senior tailback Willie Hurst will be keeping a diary about his bowl experience. Check back on December 24 and 26 for new entries. Hello from San Diego! It's nice to have some hot weather finally! Well, we got here on Friday night and had a team meeting to go over the rules and regulations for the bowl trip. Nothing too exciting. On Saturday I got up at 9:30 a.m. and had a team meeting from 10-10:45. Then we had a good two-hour practice and were free after that. Me and a couple of the other guys who are over 21 kind of went out and hit the town to check out what the night life was like in San Diego. The night life here is honestly about the same as Seattle. I'm an L.A. guy myself but I would say Seattle and San Diego are pretty similar in that department. But we had a good time.
Sunday we had a similar practice schedule so afterwards I went up to L.A. because it was one of my brother's birthdays. I took tight end Jerramy Stevens, wide receiver Patrick Reddick, linebacker Jafar Williams and safety Roderick Green up to my hometown to show them how I do things! We had a great time. Today was a tough practice. We got up at 7 a.m. and had practice from 10:15-12:15. It was tough but that was to get us ready because it is getting close to game time and we won't practice tomorrow, Christmas Day. It's nice that we have been here before and we kind of know the town and know what to expect. We were here in 1999 when we played Kansas State so a lot of the guys kind of know where to go to have fun. We know the areas around the hotel and things like that. Believe it or not, some of these guys have never had an In-N-Out burger before! Other things like that, that you can only get in California, these guys have no idea! And update on my ticket situation, I was able to get 23 tickets. For Bowl games you only get six tickets so you have to switch with guys who don't have family coming if you need more. I probably rounded up 11 tickets on the last day that we had to get our ticket list in. One or two people got left out so I just had to tell them "Sorry, I did what I could!" But all of my family will be in San Diego cheering me on so that will be nice. Well, it's Christmas Eve afternoon and I haven't done my Christmas shopping yet. I'm on my way back to the hotel right now. Once I get my bags I'm on my way home to L.A. I'm going to have to hit the mall before I go home though and get all my gifts. It's going to be a pretty big gathering. Myself, my mom and dad, two brothers, a younger sister, and my teammate Jafar Williams will be joining us, as he has for the past three years. I'm looking forward to a nice gathering. For more on the Huskies, check out www.gohuskies.com! |
