LINCOLN, Neb. -- Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Bo Pelini was hired Monday as defensive coordinator at Nebraska.

Pelini accepted the job after Green Bay beat Buffalo 10-0 Sunday. He will finish the season with the Packers before joining the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska plays Mississippi in the MainStay Independence Bowl on Friday in Shreveport, La.

The 35-year-old Pelini has nine years of NFL experience. He is in his third year as the linebackers coach for coach Mike Sherman. He also worked with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.

Pelini replaces Craig Bohl and is just the third defensive coordinator at Nebraska since 1982.

"Bo is a great individual in terms of developing relationships with players and I think because of that will be a great recruiter,'' Nebraska coach Frank Solich said.
