Bellisari retains starting job after shaky game

ESPN.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Despite mounting pressure to make a switch, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel says he doesn't anticipate making any changes at quarterback for the Buckeyes' game against San Diego State on Saturday.

Tressel said his goal this week is for three-year starter Steve Bellisari to cut down on his mistakes.

"Make good decisions, eliminate turnovers and make plays," Tressel told The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, referring to the basic rules for his quarterback.

The newspaper reported Tuesday that Buckeyes fans are calling for a change.

Saturday's game originally was scheduled for September but was postponed because of the terrorist attacks.

Tressel said the book was open on Bellisari and he would be judged with a clean slate along with sophomores Scott McMullen and Craig Krenzel and redshirt freshman Rick McFadden. Then, according to Tressel, Bellisari won the battle and retained the starting job, The Disptach reported.

Ohio State (3-2, 2-1 Big Ten), routed then-No. 13 Northwestern 38-20 before losing last Saturday 20-17 to Wisconsin.

Bellisari finished the game 10-of-21 for 132 yards with one interception.
