STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The referee doll that once hung from the front door of Joe Paterno's house has been taken down, but the Penn State coach still refuses to talk about it. Paterno would not comment Tuesday when asked about the adornment, which showed an official, yellow flag in hand, apparently hanging by its neck from the door knocker. The doll had been taken down Monday afternoon. When Paterno was asked if it was still there, he implied that he didn't know. "I don't ever use the front door -- I go in the garage,'' Paterno said. "I have one of those things, you know, you push the button and the garage door goes up. That's what I use.'' Paterno's treatment of officials has been in the spotlight this year. After Penn State lost in overtime to Iowa, the 75-year-old coach sprinted down the field to catch the officials before they went into the locker room, grabbing one's jersey and complaining about a questionable call. After another overtime loss at Michigan -- again with a questionable call near the end of the game -- Penn State athletic director Tim Curley called on the Big Ten Conference to review its officiating procedures.
