Big Ten-Pac-10 Rose Bowl battle almost dead even

Teams currently in the Big Ten and Pac-10 conferences have met in the Rose Bowl every year since 1947. Alabama was the last team not from either conference to win a Rose Bowl, defeating USC, 34-14, in 1946. Here's a look at some of the numbers the Big Ten and Pac-10 have compiled against each other over the past 55 Rose Bowl games.

  • Series: Big Ten leads, 28-27.

  • Longest win streak by each conference: Big Ten -- 6 (1947-52, 1954-59); Pac-10 -- 6 (1975-80, 1982-87).

  • Most appearances by a single team: Pac-10 -- USC, 19; Big Ten -- Michigan, 16.

  • Most wins by a single team: Pac-10 -- USC, 12; Big Ten -- Michigan, 7.

  • Most consecutive wins by a team: 2, six teams, most recently Wisconsin in 1999-2000.

  • Most consecutive losses by a team: 3, Michigan (1977-79).

  • Most wins by a coach: 5, John McKay, USC.

  • Longest droughts since last appearance: Cal -- 43 years (1959); Minnesota -- 40 years (1962); Oregon State -- 37 years (1965).

  • Largest margin of victory: 49 points (Michigan 49, USC 0 in 1948).

  • Smallest margin of victory: 1 point, three times, most recently in 1980 (USC 17, Ohio State 16).
