PRACTICE NOTES
Monday (1/21/02):
Antwaan Randle El looked little out there. He showed very good hands and excellent ball skills. He made a tremendous catch down the middle of the field today. He reached back and caught a ball thrown behind him. He displayed good quickness, but it doesn't look like he's got great speed -- not deep or burners speed. He looks like a slot receiver and return specialist. On the last play of the team period, Randle El ran the option and did a nice job of that. We may see that in the game Saturday.
Tuesday (1/22/02):
Antwaan Randle El looked more comfortable running routes today. He's got extremely good hands, ball skills and ball awareness. Randle El still did not show explosiveness out of the break. It looks like he was counting his steps on routes. It's still not natural to him -- that will come with practice. He did a great job returning punts today. That will be how he makes a football team because he's quicker than he is fast.
Wednesday (1/23/02):
Antwaan Randle El did a lot of throwing to the wide receivers in pre-practice and did a nice job. He can throw the short and intermediate routes. Randle El showed some good velocity. His arm was good, but not great. He has the ability to be a third quarterback and a receiver. He still needs some development as a receiver. Randle El struggled with his route running against the press man-to-man coverage. He'll improve there because he has such good ball skills and football instincts.
Thursday (1/24/02):
Antwaan Randle El was exceptional catching punts in a difficult wind. He looked impressive. He ran a couple of routes in seven-on-seven drills, but didn't catch any balls.

SUMMARY
Antwaan Randle El really helped himself this week. He showed teams good hands, a good work ethic and the desire to be a good receiver and return specialist. He's an outstanding person that has a great character. Randle El can be a slot receiver and returner. Look for Randle El to go in the 5th or 6th round, but keep an eye on him as his stock is rising. His grade is lower only because he is learning a new position.
