Beckman has career night for Utah

RECAP | BOX SCORE

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Lauren Beckman tied a career high with 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds Thursday night to lead Utah (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today; No. 24 Associated Press) to a 73-51 victory over Colorado State.

Kristina Andersen added 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, while Lori Red-Castagnetto came off the bench to contribute 11 points for Utah (15-2 overall, 4-0 Mountain West).

Meanwhile, the nation's top defense shut down the conference's top offense, holding the Rams (12-3, 1-1) to just 31.5 percent shooting and posting a 21-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

Utah's Amy Ewert hounded CSU's top player, Ashley Augspurger, all night, limiting the sophomore forward to just six points on 2-for-8 shooting before she fouled out with 4:03 to play.

An 11-0 run gave Utah a 20-7 lead and the team's hot shooting continued throughout the first half. Utah hit 51.7 percent to take a 15-point halftime lead.

Colorado State was held without a single free throw attempt in the opening half as the Utes did not commit a foul until three minutes into the second half.

Angie Gorton led CSU with 13 points, while Elizabeth English had 12.
