Practice makes perfect for Longhorns' Brown RECAP | BOX SCORE

AUSTIN (AP) -- Texas coach Jody Conradt bases playing time on
practice time. Saturday, that meant she could predict a strong game
from Meg Brown.
"Based on what I've been seeing in practice, I thought she was
ready to be aggressive and assertive," Conradt said after Brown
came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, leading
17th-ranked Texas to a 62-48 win over Nebraska.
"She is one of the players the team really loves, and it was
good to see her have this kind of a day," Conradt said.
Brown said she felt she had practiced well on Friday.
"As far as my personal effort, it felt great to be in on the
scoring and rebounding," she said.
The Longhorns (15-5, 3-3 Big 12) took the lead seven minutes
into the game and never relinquished it. Texas won with its
defense, holding Nebraska to 32 percent shooting (16-of-50) and
forcing 22 turnovers.
The Longhorns took a 33-18 lead at halftime by holding Nebraska
to 24 percent shooting (6-of-25) and forcing 13 turnovers, while
Kaira White scored nine points off the bench.
However, the Longhorns ran into a 5 minute stretch in the second
half in which they didn't score a field goal.
The dry spell allowed Nebraska (9-9, 1-4) to creep within 44-39
with 6:34 remaining, but field goals by Tai Dillard and Brown
nudged the Longhorns back up to a 50-39 advantage.
"I was proud that we came after them and got back in it with 6
minutes to go," said Nebraska coach Paul Sanderford. "On the road
in the Big 12, you want to play it close and hope you can get a
basket or a play at the end."
Texas outrebounded Nebraska, 51-36. Especially damaging,
according to Sanderford, was the Longhorns' 24-23 advantage in
offensive rebounds.
"What hurt us is what's hurt us all year -- keeping the other
team off the offensive boards," said Sanderford. "We held them to
34 percent shooting (23-for-66) and didn't get the win. But they
had the 24 offensive rebounds."
Freshman Stacy Stephens scored 11 points with 11 rebounds for
Texas, notching her seventh double-double in her last 10 games.
"She has worked hard to improve several areas of her game and
earn her spot," Conradt said. "We're going to expect that kind of
production and even more as she gets into her offensive game."
Casey Leonhardt led Nebraska with 16 points. The 6-foot-5 senior
managed only 12 shots as the Longhorns defense surrounded her for
much of the night.
"They were very physical," said Leonhardt of the Longhorns,
who guarded her mostly with Stephens and Tracy Cook. "They weren't
just going to let us walk around to wherever we wanted to go."
