St Joe's coach Gaitley takes leave of absence

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jennifer Phillips had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Reetta Piipari added 17 points to lead Xavier (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to a 73-57 victory Sunday over St. Joseph's.

Nicole Levandusky added 15 points and Taru Tuukkanen had 13 points for Xavier (14-2, 5-1 Atlantic 10) which won for the eighth time in nine games.

Amra Mehmedic had 15 points for St. Joseph's (10-8, 4-3), which played the game without coach Stephanie Gaitley.

Before the game, St. Joseph's announced that head coach Gaitley was taking a leave of absence for the remainder of the season. She and her husband, Frank, a former assistant coach, were named in a sexual harassment complaint filed by a former player.

Reggi Grennan, an assistant coach for the past nine seasons under Gaitley, is directing the team for the remainder of the season.

Levandusky hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 53 with 4:28 left. She made a 3-pointer and added a pair of free throws with 53 seconds remaining to cap a 15-2 run down the stretch.

St. Joseph's took its lone second-half lead at 50-48, when Amy Snell hit a jumper with 9:05 left to play. Mehmedic's 3-ponter with 53 seconds left in the opening half gave St. Joseph's a 31-28 lead at the break.

Susan Moran and Stephanie Graff added 10 points apiece for St. Joseph's.
