WACO, Texas (AP) -- Danielle Crockrom helped Baylor make a little
history.
Crockrom had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Baylor to a 79-74
victory over No. 7 Iowa State on Wednesday night, the Bears' first
win ever against a Top 10 team.
"I wanted this game so bad," Crockrom said. "This win means
so much to this team."
Crockrom, seventh in the nation in scoring at 22.7 points per
game, hit 11 of 14 shots from the field.
A pair of free throws by Nicole Collins and stubborn defense in
the final two minutes helped the Bears hold off a strong
second-half rally by Iowa State (15-2, 5-1 Big 12).
"I'm not a coach to say, 'This is the biggest win in the
program's history or anything,' " first-year Baylor coach Kim
Mulkey-Robertson said. "This is the beginning of something. I'm
not going to take anything away from this team and what it
accomplished tonight, but we want to be where Iowa State is."
Baylor (14-3, 3-3) led 47-29 at halftime, but a 21-8 Cyclones run
early in the second half got the Cyclones back in the game. Iowa
State pulled to within three on three separate occasions.
Baylor forced Iowa State into 20 turnovers on the night,
including 15 in the first half. The Bears committed nine turnovers.
"Baylor outplayed us tonight," Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly
said. "They deserved to win the basketball game. We did a decent
job on (Sheila) Lambert, but they had some other people step up and
make some big baskets. That was the difference in the game."
Monica Arnold added 13 points and six rebounds for Baylor, while Lambert had 11 points and eight assists. Jessika Stratton
came off the bench for 12 points and a career-high five steals.
Iowa State was led by Megan Taylor's 22 points. Angie Welle
added 16 points and eight rebounds.
