Cyclones 12 of 15 from behind arc

RECAP | BOX SCORE

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly wouldn't have traded places with any coach.

Angie Welle scored 28 points, Megan Taylor had 23 and Lindsey Wilson added 20 as the seventh-ranked Cyclones beat Colorado (No. 25 AP) 95-61 on Saturday night, snapping the Buffaloes' five-game winning streak.

"Tonight, I would not have wanted to be on the other bench and say, 'What are we going to do?"' Fennelly said. "It was a night when Angie was just annihilating them in the post and when they double-teamed, we'd kick it to Megan, who made every shot. Or, Lindsey beat them off the dribble.

"It was just a night when we had things going."

Iowa State (16-2, 6-1) made 12 of 15 shots from 3-point range. The Cyclones made 65 percent (34 of 52) of their field goals.

The first 6 1/2 minutes of the game saw 11 lead changes until Iowa State took control with a 14-0 run that gave the Cyclones a 30-17 lead. Iowa State led 46-33 at halftime, and Colorado (14-4, 5-2) got no closer than that 13-point margin in the second half.

The 95 points were the most scored by Iowa State against Colorado, and Buffaloes' coach Ceal Barry was quick to blame her defense.

"I expected a lot more out of our team," Barry said. "I expected us to play with more maturity, more poise, more toughness. I expected a lot more, so I'm a little disappointed right now. It's a huge step backward for our team. A huge step."

The Cyclones, on the other hand, used the game to erase the memory of a 79-74 loss at Baylor on Wednesday.

"We kind of had a wake-up call against Baylor," Wilson said. "We know every game in the Big 12, we have to come ready to play. You can't just show up and win."

Eisha Bohman led Colorado with 16 points, and Jenny Roulier added 12.

Wilson had nine of Iowa State's 27 assists. Taylor was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and Tracy Gahan added 11 points for the Cyclones.

"I thought our offensive execution was very good," Fennelly said. "Offensively, it was fun to watch."

The Cyclones outrebounded Colorado 33-24.

There were a season-high 12,962 fans at Hilton Coliseum.
