CORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- Davalyn Cunningham's layup at
the buzzer capped a closing 6-0 spurt as No. 14 Rutgers pulled
out a 39-37 Big East Conference victory over Miami. Rutgers (13-5, 5-2 Big East) trailed for most of the second half and was down, 37-33. But Tammy Sutton-Brown scored four straight points to tie the game at 37-37 with 1:19 to play. Miami (9-9, 2-5) set up for an opportunity to take the lead but the Lady Knights' Nikki Jett had a steal. Jett passed the ball to Cunningham, who scored her second basket of the night for the game-winner. Sutton-Brown led Rutgers with nine points while Linda Miles had eight off the bench. The Lady Knights had 24 turnovers and shot just 28 percent (15-of-53). Chanavia Broussard and Shaquana Wilkins scored 11 points apiece as Miami lost its fourth straight. Wilkins, who established a career high in scoring, also grabbed 10 rebounds as the Hurricanes shot 37 percent (11-of-30) but misfired on 12-of-26 free throws. Rutgers scored three points to open the contest but the Hurricanes answered with a 15-0 run to take their biggest lead. Miami had a 23-14 halftime lead but was undone by 33 turnovers.
