Struggling Stiles gets plenty of support

RECAP | BOX SCORE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) -- Jackie Stiles scored 15 points and Kinga Kiss added 14 to lead No. 13 Southwest Missouri State past Indiana State 67-52 Thursday night.

Stiles, the nation's leading scorer, was well off her average of 31.3 points per game, but received plenty of help from her teammates.

Kiss missed just two shots and reserve Ann Cavey scored 10 points in a game that proved to be a physical mismatch for the Sycamores (6-13, 3-7 Missouri Valley Conference).

Indiana State grabbed an early 9-6 lead, but the Lady Bears (15-4, 9-1) countered with a 21-6 spurt midway through the first half and still led 31-22 at halftime despite a scoring drought for the final 4:59.

But Southwest Missouri State took control early in the second half, using a 9-0 run to turn a 36-28 lead into a 45-28 advantage.

The Lady Bears sealed the outcome with a 7-0 spurt that started with 7:56 to go.

The Sycamores struggled from the field, shooting 32.8 percent, and their top two scorers -- Kiwana Battle and Kourtney Mennen -- were even worse. They combined for only seven of 26 shots.

Reserve Celeste Hlebovy scored 11 points to lead the Sycamores, while Battle had 10.
