Vols next up for hot Vandy

RECAP | BOX SCORE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Jillian Danker scored 18 points, all on 3-pointers, and Chantelle Anderson added 18 more as No. 15 Vanderbilt beat LSU (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) 70-58 Friday night in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.

Third-seeded Vanderbilt (20-8) will play No. 1 Tennessee in the semifinals Saturday for the third time in the past four years.

LSU (19-10) was trying to reach its first semifinal since 1996, but the Lady Tigers couldn't keep pace with the nation's best shooting team, men's or women's, from outside.

Danker hit her first five shots, and her fifth put Vandy up 25-17 with 10:22 left in the first half. She didn't miss a shot until she tried a layup, and finished with a career-high six 3s.

The Commodores hit 8-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 10-of-17 for 3s compared to 2-of-7 for LSU. Vanderbilt, which had been averaging 55.2 percent from the floor, was 27-of-50 for 54 percent overall while LSU shot 52 percent.

Zuzi Klimesova added 14 points for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt led 40-33 at halftime and led by as much as 13 twice, the last at 67-54 on a bucket by Anderson with 3:22 to go.

LSU's best chance came when Anderson picked up her fourth foul midway through the half and went to the bench. The Lady Tigers got within 56-49 on a layup by Marie Ferdinand with 9:21 left, but that was as close as they would get.

Klimesova scored seven of Vandy's next nine to put the game out of reach.

Ferdinand finished with a game-high 22 points, and KeKe Trady had 11 for LSU.
