Staley signs four-year contract

ESPN.com news services

PHILADELPHIA -- Dawn Staley, who will play in the WNBA and on the U.S. Olympic team this summer, was introduced as Temple's women's basketball coach Wednesday, as ESPN.com's Andy Katz previously reported.

Staley, 29, a native of Philadelphia who is recovering after having knee surgery on Feb. 22, will again play for the WNBA's Charlotte Sting this summer and be part of the U.S. team at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia in September.

Staley was a member of the United States' gold medal-winning team in 1996. Last season she was third in the WNBA in assists (5.5) and second in free-throw percentage (93.4).

Staley played at the University of Virginia and was selected the MVP of the 1991 Final Four.

She replaces Kristen Foley, who resigned after compiling a 45-93 record over five seasons.

Staley signed a four-year contract. Contract details were unavailable.
