DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke freshman sensation Alana
Beard suffered a dislocated left thumb in Thursday night's win
over North Carolina State and will be sidelined three to four
weeks.
Beard dislocated the thumb on a steal attempt with eight seconds
left in the first half. She was taken to Duke Hospital at
halftime, where she had surgery to reduce the dislocation.
The 5-11 guard became the first freshman to win Atlantic Coast
Conference player and rookie of the week at the same time after
averaging 28.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals
in leading Duke to three conference wins.
Beard is averaging 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 steals in
18 games this season.
Fifth-ranked Duke improved to 17-1 overall and 5-1 in the ACC
with Thursday's 62-59 victory over North Carolina State.
