KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee will retire the No. 23 jersey worn by former basketball star Chamique Holdsclaw.
The number will be retired Thursday in a halftime ceremony during Tennessee's game against Connecticut.
During her career between 1995 and 1999, she scored 3,025 points and had 1,295 rebounds while leading the Lady Vols to three national
championships.
"In four years, she pretty much rewrote the record book in every way, including championships," Tennessee coach Pat Summitt
said.
Holdsclaw won the 1999 Sullivan Award as the nation's top amateur athlete. Holdsclaw now plays for the WNBA's Washington Mystics.
