KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tamika Catchings, No. 3 Tennessee's leading scorer and rebounder, will have surgery Feb. 5 to repair the torn ligament in her right knee.
Catchings suffered the injury during a game against Mississippi State on Jan. 15.
Doctors determined she tore the ACL in her knee, an injury that usually takes several months of recovery. Catchings, however, hopes to return for postseason play.
A preseason All-American for the third time in her career, Catchings is only the second Lady Vols player -- after Chamique Holdsclaw -- to reach 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. For her career, Catchings has tallied 2,113 points and 1,004 rebounds.
She had seven double-doubles this season and on Dec. 27, 2000, became only the third Lady Vols player to score 2,000 points, joining Holdsclaw and Bridgette Gordon, in a 24-point game against Arizona State.
