Duke players dominate first team

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke senior Georgia Schweitzer and Blue Devil freshman Alana Beard were selected to the five-member All-ACC first team, which was announced Tuesday.

Schweitzer, who helped guide the Blue Devils (25-3) to their third ACC regular season title in the last four seasons, was named to the first team for the second straight season. Beard became the first freshman to make the first team since the squads began in 1983-84.

Duke was the only team with two members on the first team. ACC scoring leader LaQuanda Barksdale of North Carolina, ACC rebounding leader Schuye LaRue of Virginia and Florida State's Brooke Wyckoff, who has helped lead the Seminoles to the program's first winning season since 1992, also were first-team picks.

Schweitzer received 53 of a possible 64 first-team votes by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association, while the 5-foot-11 Beard got 34 top votes.

The league's Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year winners will be released next week
