DALLAS -- Oklahoma led Big 12 honors once again Friday, with Sooners coach Sherri Coale named Coach of the Year for the second straight year, and junior Stacey Dales winning Big 12 Player of the Year honors.
Coale coached the No. 7 Sooners to their second straight Big 12 regular season championship this year. Oklahoma (24-4, 15-1 Big 12)
is riding a 15-game win streak going into the Big 12 Conference tournament starting Tuesday.
Dales, a guard from Brockville, Ontario, Canada, leads the Big 12 in assists with 7.79 points per game.
The awards were announced as part of the 2001 All-Big 12 Conference Team, chosen by conference head coaches.
Sheila Lambert of Baylor, who helped the Lady Bears to a 9-7 sixth-place league finish and a 20-7 record overall, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. The junior guard is averaging 22.9 points per game.
Kansas State's Nicole Ohlde received Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. The forward is sixth in the Big 12 in scoring (17.5 ppg),
fifth in total rebounding (8.1), fifth in defensive rebounding (5.62), and 10th in field goal percentage (51.4).
