EL PASO, Texas Texas-El Paso on Friday announced that
Keitha Green, head coach at Independence Community College in
Kansas, will be the new head coach of the women's basketball team.
"She is a proven head coach with a tremendous record," said
UTEP Director of Athletics Bob Stull. "Her teams have been highly
successful, both at the conference level and nationally. She has
exhibited the ability to recruit both United States and
international players, and her student-athletes have performed very
well in the classroom."
UTEP will make the formal announcement on Monday afternoon.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of building a premier
basketball program at UTEP," Green said.
Green, the Pirate's head coach from 1996 to 2001, had a record
of 127-37. The team posted a 31-2 record in the 2000-01 season and
went 28-5 in 1999-00. Green was named the Eastern Division Coach of
the Year for 2000-01.
Green replaces Sandra Rushing, who resigned last month, citing
the frustrations of recent injuries to her players and an NCAA
probation related to eligibility and academics. Rushing posted a
record of 123-175 in her 11 years as UTEP's head coach.
