CINCINNATI -- Kevin McGuff, a Notre Dame assistant for the past six years, was introduced Thursday as the new women's basketball coach at Xavier University.
McGuff, 32, takes over for Melanie Balcomb, whose had a 135-78 record, the most victories in the history of women's basketball at the school. Balcomb left two weeks ago to become head coach at Vanderbilt.
The Musketeers, 12-19 this past season,have won the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament championship in two of the last three years and appeared in three of the last four NCAA tournaments.
The Irish were 160-39 during McGuff's six years at Notre Dame. They won the 2001 NCAA championship and advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA tournament during the rest of McGuff's tenure there. |
