Yow returns to collegiate ranks, replaces Jabir

Associated Press

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence hired former WNBA assistant Susan Yow as its women's basketball coach on Friday.

Yow replaces Jim Jabir, who resigned in April to become an assistant at Colorado.

Yow, the sister of longtime North Carolina State coach Kay Yow and Maryland athletic director Deborah Yow, comes to Providence with 19 years of Division I head coaching experience, and four years as an assistant in the WNBA.

She began her career with the WNBA in 1997 as assistant coach for the Cleveland Rockers. She was also an assistant with the Charlotte Sting from 1999-2001.

Her most recent college coaching experience was at North Carolina-Wilmington from 1993-97. She also head coach at Kansas State (1990-93), Drake (1986-90) and East Tennessee State 1978-86).

Yow, who also has coached three USA basketball teams, worked as a radio color analyst for North Carolina State women's basketball games last season.
