Yori to take over for Sanderford

Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Connie Yori, Creighton women's basketball coach for 10 years, was hired as Nebraska's coach Monday.

Yori replaces Paul Sanderford, who suddenly resigned earlier this month after five seasons. Sanderford had announced that he has been in poor health and was stepping down for his family and the university.

Yori played for Creighton in the mid-1980s and become head coach of the Omaha university in 1992. She took the Bluejays to the NCAA tournament in 1994 and 2002. Last season, the Bluejays finished 24-7, sweeping the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles.

Former Colorado State coach Tom Collen and Tennessee assistant coach Mickie DeMoss also had been considered for the job.

DeMoss withdrew her name from consideration late last week.
