Harvard became the first team to officially qualify for the 64-team NCAA Tournament field on Friday as the Crimson clinched the Ivy League title -- and the league's automatic bid to the Big Dance. Harvard's 61-47 win over Cornell on Friday, combined with Penn's victory over Brown, gave the Crimson (11-0 Ivy League, 19-4 overall) their second consecutive Ivy League title and NCAA Tournament appearance. Harvard, which has won eight Ivy championships, held Cornell to just one field goal in the first 14 minutes of Friday's game, building a 21-3 lead. Cornell, which trailed 28-17 at halftime, cut Harvard's lead to eight points midway through the second half, but Hana Peljto's 3-pointer with 7:22 to play helped Harvard pull away for good. The Crimson sealed the win by going 15-for-16 at the line. Peljto posted a double-double with 11 rebounds and a team-high 17 points. |
