Goestenkors is 92-9 over last three years

ESPN.com news services

For the fifth time in eight years, Duke's Gail Goestenkors has been named ACC Coach of the Year.

Goestenkors has guided the second-ranked Blue Devils to a 31-1 overall record this season. The Blue Devils registered a second consecutive 19-0 league mark by winning the ACC regular-season and tournament titles.

Goestenkors, coming off a fourth consecutive ACC tournament title on Monday night with a 77-59 victory over 11th-ranked North Carolina, received 41 of a possible 50 votes for the award voted on by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Only Virginia's Debbie Ryan has won the award more often (six times). No one has won as many in a shorter period of time than Goestenkors, however.

The Blue Devils came in to the season ranked No. 1, but had a key early blow to the squad as All-America candidate Monique Currie went down with a torn ACL for the season. Duke responded to adversity and was ranked No. 1 for 12 weeks to begin the season. Goestenkors has already tied a school record with 31 victories and enters the NCAA Tournament with a 92-9 overall record over the last three years.

A three-time National Coach of the Year selection, Goestenkors (268-83) is looking for a third NCAA Final Four appearance in five years.
