From Pearl Harbor to SquarePants

(Editor's note: Connecticut sophomore forward Ashley Battle, a WBCA and Parade high school All-American, will share a diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.)

I know it's been awhile, but we have been doing a lot of traveling and it has been hard to keep up. We just came back from winning the Hawaiian Invitational.

While in Hawaii, we did a little sightseeing. We went to Pearl Harbor. After seeing the movie I was really excited to see the actual grounds. The once battleship is now a memorial of the USS Arizona. The Arizona was a ship that was attacked during the battle. This ship had the most casualties with close to 1,200 people. First you watch a film on why the USA intervened in WWII, then you go on a little boat out to the memorial.

The memorial is actually on top of the ship, and to give you a sense of how big the ship was, it was as long as four football fields. You could actually see the ship below the memorial. The sailor told us a story about the tears of the Arizona. The story is that there was an oil drip that comes out from the ship and once the last member of the Arizona dies, then the oil will stop dripping.

It was really a sad site to see. I can't believe that so many bodies are entombed in the ship forever. I was really grateful to see that awesome site.

On a lighter note, we watched a cartoon called SpongeBob SquarePants. The funniest episode was on while we were in Hawaii. It was when Spongebob and Patrick had bad breath. The entire episode they thought that they were ugly because people were staying away from them. But the problem was they kept saying "sundae," but it was a hissing, stretched-out "sundae" and they both had really bad breath that they had actually gotten after eating a sundae.

Well, while we were in Hawaii, Jess and I were talking to some guy on the beach when we both noticed that he had bad breath. I turned and looked at her and said, "Suuuundaaaae" like SpongeBob did. Jess and I both cracked up. He probably thought we were pretty weird for laughing for no apparent reason. OK, I do admit that it was pretty rude, but it was really funny and he just thought we were funny people. No harm done.

This week we played Holy Cross in Worcester and hosted USC yesterday (Sunday). The Worcester game was played during a pretty bad snow storm, so we just want to thank all the fans who made it out to see us.

We start exams this week and don't get back to games until the 20th when we host Pepperdine, so wish us luck!!!!!
