(Editor's note: Texas Tech senior forward Plenette Pierson, a former Big 12 Freshman of the Year, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.) Dec. 10, 2002
This past week was a slow one but the week finished with lots of excitement. For us, this was a week of preparing ourselves to play and to do well in our classes. The week started off with lots of practicing and studying. It was a little frustrating at times for me because of studying and juggling everything else. We played Creighton on Wednesday. Creighton's team was similar to the Valparaiso team that we played the week before last. In this particular game, we thought that we really needed to get a win going into finals because we all wanted to be able to focus on our finals and not worry about a game that we just lost. During this game, Jia Perkins scored 41 points, which was a career high for her. Not only was she scoring all the time she also rebounded the ball very well. She ended up having 12 boards at the end of the game. What better way for Jia to go into her finals after scoring 41 points in our last outing? Jia was not the only one contributing to our final point total. I also had a great game where I finished the night with 31 points and eight boards. We also had a lot of people play great, not only scoring, but also getting defensive stops and making great passes. The final score for the game was 98-70. I must give credit to a Creighton team that gave us a run for our money. To top the week off, Jia was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for her efforts. Now the excitement is over and we must buckle down for finals. I have three finals left and I am done for the semester. It will be another slow week this week because we don't play again until Dec. 14 in Wyoming. This will be great for us because we will have a doubleheader with our men's team. Well, I hate to leave you like this but I have to go study for my finals. I can't wait to tell you about our trip to Wyoming. See you when we get back.
