Remembering Chris

(Editor's note: Purdue junior Shereka Wright, a 5-foot-10 forward and All-Big Ten first-team pick, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.)

I wanted to change things up a little bit in this week's diary entry. Yes, we had our first exhibition last weekend and played great. But we lost one of the most important players on our team. Our academic advisor, Chris Ribnek, died of cancer on Nov. 9.

It was big shock to our team and the whole Purdue family. Chris came to the athletic department the same time our freshman class arrived at Purdue. From the first day I met her, I could tell that she was a strong, intellectual woman who was family oriented and cared about helping all the student-athletes be successful.

She loved what she did; you could just tell because she came to work every day with a smile on her face and had a great energy about herself. Besides being our academic advisor, she was a friend. You could sit and talk to her about anything. She would laugh and joke with you, making it comfortable to converse with her.

She will be truly missed by the Purdue family and community. I know she will continue to look over us from above. We love you always!
