Carmelo Anthony will have his college jersey retired at the Carrier Dome in February, Syracuse confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.
Anthony, who led Syracuse to the 2003 national championship as a freshman, will be honored at halftime during one of the Orange's four home games next month. The specific date will be officially announced next week.
Anthony's jersey hanging from the rafters will be unveiled during the ceremony. He also will be handed a special large-framed plaque with his No. 15 jersey, which has not been worn since his first and only season on campus. Then he will be given the opportunity to address the home crowd.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, who last saw Anthony when the New York Knicks played at the Carrier Dome in the preseason, is excited to see him back.
"It's always good to catch up with him," he said. "We have spent a lot of time together this summer in the Olympics and stuff. It's always good to see him and have him back in Syracuse. We talk once in a while."
Anthony will be the 10th Syracuse player to have his jersey retired. The others include Dave Bing (22), Derrick Coleman (44), Sherman Douglas (20), Billy Gabor (17), Billy Owens (30), Rony Seikaly (4), Dwayne "Pearl" Washington (31), Wilmeth Sidat-Singh (19), one of the first African-Americans to play sports at Syracuse, and Vic Hanson (8), the only player in history to be enshrined in both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame.
