DETROIT -- Derek Jeter will have to wait another year to be inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame after air travel problems kept him from leaving New Jersey.
The 40-year-old Jeter went to high school in Kalamazoo before becoming a star for the New York Yankees.
The Detroit News reports that Jeter planned to take a private plane from New Jersey's Teterboro Airport on Thursday but encountered mechanical problems. Organizers say he'll be inducted next year instead.
Others selected for Thursday's induction ceremony in Detroit include Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo, NHL stars Sergei Fedorov and Mike Modano, baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, Olympic gold medalist Sheila Taormina, bowler Aleta Sill and former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Doug English.
