EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets shooting guard MarShon Brooks will be out 7-10 days with right foot tendinitis, coach Avery Johnson said Thursday.
Brooks is wearing a walking boot for a few days and will be re-evaluated over the weekend. X-rays and an MRI on Brooks' foot were negative.
Johnson said Brooks' foot first began to bother him a day or two ago.
"We don't anticipate any long-term effects with this injury," Johnson said.
Johnson said the timetable on Brooks is "conservative."
"If he comes out of the boot in two days, we rehab him for two days and then condition him, then maybe he can play at the end of next week, maybe the last preseason game at Nassau (Coliseum on Oct. 24), fine," Johnson said, "but that's really conservative."
Brooks thinks he's "day-to-day" with "a little inflammation."
"It's not something I couldn't play through, but we're just trying to get it right right now," Brooks said.
Also on the injury front, small forward Josh Childress and point guard Tyshawn Taylor returned to practice. For Taylor, it was his first contact practice. The rookie had been out with a strained right quadriceps.
Taylor participated in limited minutes in the team's scrimmage on Thursday, but will not play on Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers, Johnson said. The Nets hope to get Taylor back for Tuesday night's game against the Boston Celtics at the earliest.
Childress, who had been dealing with a left quadriceps contusion, was not limited in the team's scrimmage, Johnson said.
Shooting guard Jerry Stackhouse, who received acupuncture treatment on his right leg in Atlanta on Wednesday, missed Thursday's practice due to a sore right knee.
