The Brooklyn Nets are interested in adding Roy Rogers as an assistant coach on Jason Kidd's staff and will be talking with Rogers this week, according to a source.
Rogers worked as an assistant coach with the Nets for two seasons (2008-10) -- working under Lawrence Frank until the head coach was fired following an 0-16 start in 2009-10 -- and also served as an advance scout. Rogers also served under Frank while Frank was coaching the Detroit Pistons.
Kidd, who was hired as Nets coach on June 13, just 10 days after his retirement, also remains hopeful that Frank will join him as an assistant coach as well, but the team is still waiting to hear from Frank on what his future holds, according to a source.
"The invitation is out there, so it's up to him," Kidd said Friday of Frank on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike."
"He's in a special situation. He's at home, his wife is sick, so I understand coming off of coaching [the Pistons] and [possibly] wanting a year off with his family, so I respect that. The big thing is he knows how much I love him and how much I need him, but family comes first, and I respect that."
Frank lives in New Jersey. His wife underwent emergency surgery in March for an undisclosed illness, and Frank said then that she faces a long recovery.
Yahoo! Sports previously reported Brooklyn's interest in Rogers.
