Scott Gomez returns to Devils

Wait, what year is this again?

The Devils announced Monday that they have signed free-agent forward Scott Gomez for a second tour in New Jersey. Terms were not immediately available.

The 34-year-old center, who won Stanley Cups with the team in 2000 and 2003, was invited to training camp on a tryout basis but only just recently earned a contract.

The Devils are without two of their top centers with Travis Zajac (lower-body injury) recently placed on injured reserve and Adam Henrique sidelined with an upper-body injury.

Gomez has not played a game this season and recorded only two goals in 46 games for the Florida Panthers last season. He's played for four teams since leaving the Devils after the 2006-07 season.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told reporters Monday that Gomez might "have" to play Tuesday against Pittsburgh because of the team's injury-ravaged lineup. The Devils have dropped four straight games.
