Jack Capuano not behind bench

New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano was not be behind the bench Saturday because of medical reasons, the team announced.

A source told ESPNNewYork.com the issue is "nothing life-threatening." Capuano has kidney stones, according to Newsday.

Following the Islanders' 2-1 loss to the Devils, an Islanders spokesperson said Capuano had been admitted to Long Island Jewish Hospital and was expected to rejoin the team later this week.

Doug Weight, the team's senior adviser to the general manager and assistant coach, was the acting coach for Saturday's game.

"We're all on the same page with what we believe in and how we run teams," Weight said after the game. "We spent a lot of time together. I was very comfortable.

"I really think we got some guys going, got some different looks on the lines, and developed some offense. It's about pulling to play. Those guys played hard for the whole staff, for Cap, and we came up short."

Capuano had been able to talk with the media after the team's morning skate.
